“Time is On My Side … Yes It Is” (in my Mick Jagger voice)

My relationship with time has always been complicated. I’ve always either in “carpe diem” mode or “sitting by the dock of the bay” mode with no in-between. To some extent, passing time intrigues me and haunts me at the same time.

My July 8th birthday caused me to have a heightened sense of awareness about how loudly the clock is ticking and how much further I have to go to leave my legacy that will truly allow me to rest in peace and power. I try to be patient with my progress as I move forward, but I can’t help but to reflect on how time has impacted my relationships. Hindsight is 20/20. I can see now that some of those relationships may have evolved differently if I had allowed more time to pass throughout the relationship. Some of my clients have had the same experience.

We can’t wait to (not necessarily in this order):

  • Get a phone call from the cute guy/girl you met at the coffee shop
  • Go on a date with said cute guy/girl
  • Be intimate
  • Be exclusive
  • Move-in together
  • Get engaged
  • Get married
  • Buy a home together
  • Have children
  • And if we’re unlucky or unwise (or both) sometimes, sadly, we can’t wait for the divorce to be final and to have the single life that we had pre-marriage
